Library, legal document management in Irys One
Library is legal document management in Irys One. Every file lives in the matter it belongs to, and a document moves into the next step without a download, a tab switch or a re-upload.
Included with every Irys plan.
Beyond the shared drive
Most firms run on a drive that has never heard of a matter.
Document management usually means a shared folder, a billing system that thinks it is a document system, and a quiet prayer about which version is final.
The drive does not know what a case is
Files are filed by whoever saved them, so finding the right one depends on remembering how a colleague thought about it two years ago.Nobody is certain which version is final
Copies multiply across inboxes and desktops, and the one that matters is whichever the last person happened to attach.Doing anything means leaving
Download it, open another tool, upload it again. That round trip is the friction that quietly kills adoption.Where documents live
Filed by the case, not by the person who saved it.
A matter gets its own folder without anyone creating one, and everything else has an obvious home.
Matter folders
Created for you with the matter, so a file is filed by the case it belongs to from the moment it arrives.
Client folders
The material that belongs to a client rather than to one case, kept together across their matters.
General folders
Templates, research and the rest of the things that are not case specific.
Search that knows where you are
Look inside the folder you are in, or across the whole platform, rather than only ever searching everything.
Library and Sign
Documents at rest, and documents in motion.
Library holds the file. Sign moves it. Together they close the loop, and the loop ends where it started.
It goes out from where it lives
Send an agreement for signature straight from the Library, without downloading it or uploading it into another product first. The other side signs in a browser
No account to create and nothing to install for the person on the other end of the agreement. The signed copy comes home
The executed document lands back in the same place it left, still attached to the same matter. What you can put in it
The formats legal work actually arrives in.
Once a file is processed it is indexed and searchable rather than simply stored.
Documents
PDFs, Word files, plain text and markdown, and WordPerfect documents.Images
Photographs and scans, filed alongside everything else rather than in a separate place. What it works with
The system of record underneath the platform.
Matters is where the work on a case happens. Sign takes agreements out and returns them. Workbench reaches into the Library for the files it needs.
Questions
What is the Library?
The Library is Irys's centralized repository where all your files live, organized into folders linked to your Matters.
What's new in the Library?
The Library is now in a Finder-style layout: a left sidebar with organized folder categories (Client, Matter, General); a sortable document table; and a preview pane with document metadata, quick actions, direct connections to Sign and the Drafting Assistant, and workspace-scoped access.
How is the Library organized?
The left sidebar has four sections: Favorites, Client Folders, Matter Folders, and General Folders. Under Favorites, you'll also find quick access to Recent documents, All Documents, and Signed Documents.
What do the folder colors mean?
Folder icons are color-coded by category: Client Folders have a green flag, Matter Folders have a purple flag, and General Folders have no color.
How does the preview pane work?
Click any document row to open the preview pane on the right, which shows the document thumbnail, metadata (Kind, Size, Created, Modified, Location, Status, Source), and available actions. Click the same row again to close it. Clicking a different document updates the pane without closing it. Switching sidebar sections closes the pane automatically.
What actions can I take from the preview pane?
View, Download, Move to Folder, Link to Matter, Send for Signature, Open in Drafting Assistant, and Delete. Rename lives in the right-click context menu, not the preview pane.
What does the Source column show?
The Source column has two lines: the first (Location) shows where the document lives: Default, General, Client: {name}, or Matter: {name}. The second line (Origin) shows how it got there: Uploaded, Generated (from Drafting Assistant), or Chat (from Workbench).
What file types and sizes does the Library support?
Uploads support PDF, DOC, DOCX, TXT, MD, WPD, EML, MSG, JPG, JPEG, and PNG files up to 200 MB each, with a batch limit of 500 files at a time.
What do the status badges mean?
"Processed" (green) means the file has been ingested and is ready for use. "Pending" (yellow/orange) means the file is being processed. "Draft" (gray) applies to documents in progress from the Drafting Assistant.
Can I search within the Library?
Yes, two search options are available. The scoped toolbar search ("Search documents...") searches within your current folder context. The global ⌘K search is platform-wide across documents, chats, matters, and workspaces.
How does the Library relate to my Workspace?
The Library is workspace-scoped. When you're in a Workspace, you see only that Workspace's documents, plus your Personal Library and the Org Library. Documents in other Workspaces are not visible until you switch to that workspace.
Does the Library connect to the Drafting Assistant?
Yes. Documents drafted in the Drafting Assistant appear in the Library with status indicators mapped to their stage: Draft (gray), Pending review (yellow), and Final/Processed (green). You can also open any Library document directly in the Drafting Assistant via the preview pane.
