A Georgetown Law Center Office of the Registrar memo (April 2023) states that unless expressly authorized by the professor in writing, students are prohibited from consulting or using generative AI tools such as ChatGPT to create written exam responses or text incorporated into exam responses; such use is treated the same as receiving assistance from another person. Georgetown Law's JD program is explicitly excepted from the university-wide Honor Council system and instead runs its own separate Honor System and Student Disciplinary Code, which this memo enforces. The take-home exam honor statement now expressly affirms non-use of unauthorized materials, including AI chatbots.
