What's new
Slack is now a source of work in Intake. Connect your workspace, tick the channels you want watched, and a new message in one of them arrives as an item on the register.
- Messages count, not only files. A request typed straight into a channel comes in as the request itself. A message with files brings those in as the item's documents.
- A thread is one item. Replies under a message that already became an item join that item rather than starting a second one, so a conversation that runs for a day stays in one place.
- Acknowledgements are skipped. A reply that is only a thanks or an emoji creates nothing. It is a fixed list, not a judgement call, so a short genuine request still comes through.
- Direct messages, if you want them. One option watches every one-to-one DM sent to you, including conversations that start later.
Why this matters
A lot of legal work is asked for in a channel rather than sent to a mailbox, and it stays there, scrolling past the person who had to act on it. Slack requests now land on the same register as everything else, read on arrival, with what Irys pulled out attributed back to the message it came from. A Slack item takes the same five ways out as any other, and nothing becomes a matter on its own.
How to use it
- Open the intake processes and sources page from the register header and connect Slack
- Tick the channels you want watched, public or private, and decide whether to include your direct messages
- Items arrive from the moment you save, so connecting a channel does not pull its history in
- Change the channels, or pull Slack in straight away, from the Slack card on the sources page
If your Irys workspace is shared with other people, watching your direct messages puts those messages in front of everyone in it.
