The Workbench Interface

This page is a quick reference to everything on the Workbench screen, grouped by where each control lives. Every control here serves the same flow: ask, watch it work, steer if needed, review what comes back.

Greeting

When you open Workbench it greets you by name ("What are you working on, ...?") followed by "This is your workbench. Give it a job and hand it the files, it does the work." Inside a Matter, it already has that matter's documents in context.

Input bar

The input bar is where you give Workbench the job. Type or paste your ask, or drop files right onto it, the placeholder reads "Drop files here, even a whole zip. Ask, draft, or research anything." The controls around it:

ControlWhat it does
Attach files (paperclip)Upload documents, or drag and drop them in, including a whole ZIP. Supports PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, emails, images, CSV, and TXT, up to 200MB per file.
Voice input (microphone)Dictate your prompt instead of typing.
Connect apps (plug)Turn connected accounts on or off for this chat, and see how many are active. With none connected, it links you to set them up. See Connecting your accounts.
Writing settings (sliders)Set the jurisdiction and writing voice for this chat, so drafts come back in the register you want.
Amplify Prompt (sparkles)Expand and refine your prompt before sending. See Amplify Prompt.
SubmitSend your message to Workbench.

Mode selector

Below the input bar, the mode selector sets how deeply Workbench works on your question: Quick (fast answers, the default), Standard (right for most work), or Thorough (for deep research and multi-step jobs). Exactly one is active at a time. See AI Modes and Switching Modes & Sessions.

What Workbench can do

On a new chat, an expandable "What can Workbench do?" panel shows a set of starter cards, tap one to drop that prompt in, or just type your own. They cover drafting real files, taking on a whole zip of documents, research with citations, drafting an email, redlining and comparing, reviewing a stack of documents at once, running a multi-step job, and working from your connected accounts.

Conversation toolbar

Across the top of an open conversation, a toolbar gives you actions for that chat and its matter:

ActionWhat it does

My Desk

The My Desk button in the top-right opens a slide-out workspace panel that persists across your conversations and Matters. See My Desk.
