The AI Assistant Interface
This page is a quick reference to everything on the AI Assistant screen, grouped by where each control lives.
Greeting
When you open the Assistant, it greets you by name with a prompt to get started. Inside a Matter, the greeting reflects the matter context so the AI is already primed with your documents.
Input bar
The input bar runs along the bottom of the screen. From left to right:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Attach files (paperclip) | Upload documents for analysis, or drag and drop them in. Supported formats include PDF, DOCX, TXT, and images. |
| Text input | Type your question or instruction in plain language. |
| Voice input (microphone) | Dictate your prompt instead of typing — click the microphone or press Shift + Enter. |
| Amplify Prompt (lightning bolt) | Expand and refine your prompt before sending. See Amplify Prompt. |
| Submit | Send your message to the Assistant. |
Mode selector
Below the input bar, the mode selector controls how deeply the AI investigates your question — Everyday (default), Deep Research, or Agent. Exactly one is active at a time. See AI Modes and Switching Modes & Sessions.
Quick Actions
A row of pill-shaped shortcut buttons below the input bar launches common workflows in one click. Customize them with the edit pencil. See Quick Actions.
Conversation toolbar
Across the top of an open conversation, a toolbar gives you actions for that chat and its matter. In order:
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Conversation title | Shows the matter and the chat name. Use the rename control next to it to retitle the conversation. |
| View Files | Open the files attached to this conversation. |
| Move to Matter | Move this conversation into a matter. |
| Private | Control who can see the conversation. |
| Pin | Pin the conversation for quick access. |
| Tag | Add a label to the conversation. |
| Share | Share the conversation. |
| Focus Mode | A distraction-free, full-screen view for reading the AI's replies — it hides the surrounding panels so the chat fills the screen. Toggle it off to return to the standard layout. |
| More | Open additional actions for the conversation. |
| Matter Settings | Open settings for the matter this conversation belongs to. |
My Desk
The My Desk button in the top-right opens a slide-out workspace panel with three tabs — Notes, Playbook, and Library — that persists across your conversations and Matters. See My Desk.
