Legal research with citations in Irys Workbench

Legal research in Irys happens in Workbench. You ask the question, Workbench searches case law, synthesizes the answer, and brings back citations you can check. Three pieces of that work have their own pages.

Dual search across U.S. case law:

  • Keyword and boolean search, with traditional query operators for precise control.
  • AI semantic search, which turns a natural-language question into relevant results.

Both run in parallel for coverage in a single query. You shape the results by asking: name the jurisdiction in the question, say how you want them back, and narrow by date, judge, topic or citation count in the next message.

Citation checking

Check the citations in a document or in a research output:

  • Existence check, which checks the authority against the case records in the legal data sources Irys searches.
  • Format accuracy, which checks that the reference matches that case.
  • What the text claims it held, which compares the point the authority is cited for with the case itself.

Irys flags what it cannot match, and what does not line up, for attorney review.

Deep research

A memo-quality answer in one pass, with citations gathered at the end so the report is copy-ready. It runs in Standard mode. For a question that turns on case law, use Thorough instead, which checks citations against source as it works.

See Deep Research for the full page, or AI Modes for how Quick, Standard and Thorough compare.

When you work inside a Matter, Workbench already has that matter's documents in context.
