Research & Cite Check

The Research surface in Irys One gives legal professionals three integrated tools:

Run dual search across U.S. case law powered by CourtListener's database of 50M+ citations:

  • Keyword / boolean search — traditional query operators for precise control.
  • AI semantic search — natural-language questions the AI converts into relevant results.

Both run in parallel for comprehensive coverage in a single query. Filter by jurisdiction, date range, judge, topic, and more.

Cite Check

Verify every citation in a document or research output:

  • Existence check — confirms the cited case actually exists (anti-hallucination).
  • Format accuracy — validates that the citation string matches the real case.
  • Good law status — flags cases that have been overruled, reversed, or otherwise negatively treated.

Cite Check catches hallucinated or stale references before they reach a filing.

Deep Research

An AI Assistant mode for memo-quality research in one comprehensive pass:

  • Draws on your matter documents, U.S. case law, public web sources, and statutes.
  • Synthesizes everything in a single pass and returns a structured report — answer, analysis, aggregated citations, and open questions. There is no iterative loop; that step-by-step investigation is Agent.
  • Citations are aggregated at the end, so the report is copy-ready. Run Cite Check to verify them before you rely on the report.

For a question that turns heavily on case law, Agent validates citations against source as it works. See the AI Modes overview for how Everyday, Deep Research, and Agent compare, or the full Deep Research page.

All research tools are available inside a Matter, so the AI understands your case context when generating queries and reports.
